The Brothers of Destruction vs. The Wyatt Family
Going into Survivor Series, everyone assumed that this was going to be a traditional Survivor Series elimination match. It made sense since one half of this feud already had enough men to field a team, and that also added intrigue since Undertaker and Kane would need to find two mystery partners to make the sides even (everyone loves mystery partners).
The foundation for this feud was strong, too: After a hard-fought loss at Hell in a Cell, a defeated Undertaker was inexplicably abducted by the Wyatt Family. The next night on Raw, while Bray Wyatt was explaining his actions, Kane emerged to seek vengeance, but also ended up getting abducted. Then the next week on Raw, Bray Wyatt took to the stage yet again, announced that he had successfully claimed the souls of both the Undertaker and Kane, and proceeded to put on a fire-and-lightning show the likes of which the WWE had never seen.
Seven days later, the Brothers of Destruction were back on the scene—souls intact—and they beat up the entire Wyatt Family without any assistance whatsoever. Things cooled down after that.
The match was announced on SmackDown, slating that two members of the Wyatt Family would face Kane and the Undertaker in a tag match at Survivor Series. Both parties spoke their piece and partook in a brief stare down on Raw, and now we’re just hours away from the big match—one that marks the 25th anniversary of the Undertaker’s debut at Survivor Series 1990 (as a mystery partner, nonetheless).
The Brothers of Destruction and the Wyatt Family each bring their own brand of intensity to the ring, both rooted in “the darkside.” That alone is enough to keep this match interesting, even if we haven’t gotten as much build as some would like.
And on a sentimental note, this very possibly could be the last time we see the Brothers of Destruction in action as a tag team.
