When Irish Eyes Are Smilin’

In the finals of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament, Roman Reigns claimed victory over Dean Ambrose. It was an instance where tons of people thought that one of the two would turn on the other and align with the Authority. Instead we had a clean win where no one turns. My gut reaction was that was not the right call. With Reigns and Ambrose still as faces, who is the number one heel on the roster? Answer: There is none. Except for quintessential heel Kevin Owens.

But then HHH comes out…and Reigns denies a handshake from the boss and spears him instead. Sheamus comes out of nowhere and cashes in after nailing the newly-crowned champ with a Brogue Kick. Roman Reigns kicks out at two amidst the confetti from his win. Sheamus hits a second Brogue Kick and wins the title.

My gut reaction? That was perfect.

The Authority goes Irish. The Sheamus cash in was something the WWE Universe was dreading, but now it works perfectly. Sheamus is a placeholder champion until the Royal Rumble likely, where Reigns can be crowned finally. Sheamus immediately has heat, the backing of the establishment, and becomes the number one heel on the roster in a time of desperate need.

Hopefully Barrett also joins the Authority. He could work as a mouth piece and enforcer, since their numbers are severely depleted. Let him go out on Monday and say that he has Bad News for the WWE Universe: the luck of the Irish prevailed and Sheamus is champion.
