Dean Ambrose Should Be Next in Line for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
After their WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament match at Survivor Series, it’s clear that Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens need a program revolving around the Intercontinental Championship.
During Sunday’s Survivor Series pay-per-view, the best match of the night was the second semifinal of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament between Dean Ambrose and Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens.
Ambrose and Owens went at it for over 11 minutes of intense, high-paced action. After Roman Reigns advanced in the first semifinal over Alberto Del Rio, his former Shield brother joined in the tournament final. Not only did Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens continue to show that their two of the most underrated stars in WWE today, they showed that a program with them should come to fruition.

There were plans of the two stars dueling over the Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series, but that was before the devastating knee injury to Seth Rollins that threw a wrench into everything moving forward for WWE.
Spoiler: Sheamus is WWE World Heavyweight Champion after cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase and defeated Roman Reigns to win the gold after Reigns beat Ambrose in the tournament final.

With Reigns and Sheamus set for a rematch at WWE TLC next month, one of the other title matches at TLC should be locked in for the final pay-per-view of the year.
What more can Dean Ambrose do? He’s over in every city WWE travels to, he’s a tremendous in-ring performer, his character fits him, and outside of his title wins with The Shield, what has WWE really done for him since the Shield’s demise?
Kevin Owens is the best male singles performer in the WWE today. There’s no argument with this one. There are no flaws in Owens’ game. He’s the prototypical “heel that’s too cool to hate”. There’s a reason Owens was shot to the Moon starting in NXT. He quickly became NXT Champion because he’s that great.
Seth Rollins’ injury was a backbreaker for WWE. The company has to close the year with a bang. It’s hard to do when guys like John Cena, Brock Lesnar, and now Cesaro, are away from action. A feud between Ambrose and Owens could help build momentum into WrestleMania season with TLC next month and the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January.
The beauty of this feud is that both are such good performers, it really doesn’t matter who wins and loses. Both are so skilled in many aspects. Ambrose is the reckless, anti-establishment face and Owens is the prize-fighting heel that is must-see-television every time he’s on your screens.
Could WWE hold off on this feud until it involves some bigger gold? Yeah, they could and it would still be fantastic. But, do they really have a choice right now with the lack of talent on the roster? No.
One final note on a potential Ambrose-Owens feud is the pay-per-view that’s upcoming. WWE Tables, Ladders, Chairs (and the one time they had “Stairs” and the show sounded like a Dr. Seuss book) is usually a hard-hitting show with plenty of weapons to go around.
Owens had one of the best matches all year with current NXT Champion Finn Balor at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in a Ladder Match this past summer, while Ambrose is crazy enough to make any match type work at a high level.

Some type of stipulation could really make this feud stand out next month and keep eyes on the product before Sheamus’ hair-beard combination ruins everything later in the night.
