New Day Opens Raw

Raw opens with a ton of confetti and New Day comes out.

Big E asks whose birthday is it with all the confetti out. He says it’s not about a birthday, but about a “New Day.” They all say there’s a festival going on and they take out a Pittsburgh Steelers Terrible Towel. Big E rubs himself with it and throws it away.

Big E says today marks a new day, a new champion. They all welcome out Sheamus, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Sheamus thanks everyone for him being the champion and New Day for the introduction. He says New Day’s personality is infectious and they make fun of Pittsburgh being dirty. He then thanks The Authority for presenting him with the opportunity of being the champion. Sheamus sums it up by thanking Roman Reigns. Kofi Kingston talks about how brief Reigns’ title reign lasted. Sheamus says if it wasn’t for Reigns refusing Triple H’s handshake, he may not have been champion.

Sheamus starts mocking Reigns and says he should have seen him coming. He says Reigns’ championship run can only be measured by a microscope and talks about it being 5 minutes, 15 seconds. Sheamus then says “Austin 5:15 says I just kicked your arse.”

Reigns then comes up out of nowhere and hits a Superman Punch on Sheamus and takes away the title.

Rob’s Note: Sheamus and New Day’s promos in the ring were fun and entertaining. I don’t think Reigns showing up was needed, as this segment should have ended with the the Celtic Warrior celebrating.

Reigns stealing the title away is also weird and something we just saw 6 months ago with Dean Ambrose. It’s not something his character would do, but we’ll see if this hinders anything later.
