6 Problems That Led to WWE Ratings Decline

The Authority
Where to start on this one. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are the bosses, both on-screen and off. On screen they’re meant to be the despicable heels running the show, not allowing the top baby face the chance to get his hands on the belt. Off screen Triple H is the man behind NXT and is loved by wrestling fans for the work he does down in Florida. Stephanie does so much charity work, i a great humanitarian and a proud mother. Can you see the problem here?

On the one hand they’re meant to be the people we hate but then we see so much great stuff they do, that not only confuses the fans but gives them a conflict. Why would we boo Triple H when we know how great of a job he does with the talent in NXT? Why should we despise Stephanie when we know how much great stuff she does in her every day life? The pair of them are playing a role on tv that are a massive step away from their real lives. To me they are in the wrong spot or at least they are portraying the wrong characters.
If you want them to be in charge they need to be more of an overlooking figure, playing equal parts good and bad. The people who the wrestlers look to for matches etc, but who can be as good or as evil as the people they’re working with are. There’s no point having them do their damnedest to put road blocks in the way of Roman Reigns when we know what great people they really are.
Probably the greatest Authority figure the WWE/WWF had was in the early 2000’s with Commissioner Mick Foley running the show. Why not go back to a man in charge in a similar vein? I’m not saying bring back Foley to take that role but have someone play devil’s advocate, be fair on the good guys and be hard on the bad guys. That’s what wrestling comes back to at it lowest level, the battle between Good and Evil, let’s get back to that.
