50/50 booking

This is one of the most troublesome problems behind the whole booking idea in current day WWE. The idea that men can’t win all the time, and others can’t lose. It’s hard to get behind any one particular wrestler when you know that the win they had tonight will be evened out with a loss the next time we see them—even the champions suffer from this problem.

Let’s look at this from a different perspective. If a team went through a season in the NFL and ended up with an 8-8 record it’d be a pretty unspectacular season for that particular team. Now think about every team doing that, think about how pumped up you’d be when it came to the playoffs.

Apply that to wrestling and you get a similar feeling of “why should I care?”. As a lifelong wrestling fan two of the most memorable things are The Undertakers WrestleMania streak and Goldbergs unbeaten streak. They racked up wins over a period of time and that made people sit up and take notice. If someone on the current WWE roster went a couple of months unbeaten, lets say Cesaro when he comes back from injury, it’d mean a whole lot more when he finally got a shot at a title belt. It would give us a reason to get behind him, the quest for the gold on the back of some dominating wins. It would allow him to stand out from the crowd, not just blend into the background with everyone else.

The only way to change this problem would be with a wholesale change in the booking ideas from the top. Look at the most memorable moments that I mentioned earlier and see why people remember them.
