Continuing the Formation of the nWo
As Heenan and Bischoff are on camera. Heenan is talking about his team, Flair and Anderson, when he suddenly stops talking and runs for the hills. He’s spotted Scott Hall approaching.
Bischoff stands up to him as Hall stands around looking cocky. Then Kevin Nash stalks into view. Bischoff looks absolutely terrified. We get the iconic bit of dialogue from Nash:
"You’ve been sitting out here for six months running your mouth, this is where the big boys play, ha? Look at the adjective, play, we ain’t here to play."
Bischoff wants nothing to do with the pair of them. Nash asks him where Hogan is, and continues to pull apart WCW. Bischoff tells Nash and Hall to come to WCW Headquarters in Atlanta and he’ll sort them out a match.
Nash ends the night with the line:
"The measuring stick just changed around here buddy, you’re looking at it."
Carl’s Take: This is the true start of the greatest angle, feud, era of pro wrestling. Nash and Hall were thought of as still being part of WWF at the time, not many knew that they were signed to WCW and would change the business forever with their actions in the coming months. This is the time when I started watching wrestling most weeks, this really was the most exciting time I’ve ever known, nothing has got close to it at this point. Not till the birth of Stone Cold Steve Austin et al and the Attitude Era did anything touch the coolness of the team set to become known as The Outsiders. As good old JR would say, business is about to pick up!
