WWE TLC 2010

2010 was the year of The Nexus. The group of young men who seemed destined to destroy the WWE as we knew it and TLC was the culmination of their war with John Cena. The main event here saw Cena face Nexus’ leader Wade Barrett, it didn’t end well for Barrett, who was the victim of an Attitude Adjustment through a row of chairs for the loss. The show ended with Cena pulling down the chairs on the PPV set on top of Barrett, poetic justice perhaps, but Cena had beaten the guys who should have been the future of the WWE and made it look easy.

The show started with a triple threat ladder match for the Intercontinental title, featuring Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger. A typical high flying match won by Ziggler after Swagger and Kingston had pulled the belt down and the defending champ grabbed the belt first. LayCool lost to Natalya and Beth Phoenix (Divas of Doom) in a tag team table match. Tag Team Champions Santino Marella and Vladimir Koslov won by DQ against Nexus members Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel, to then be battered by Barrett with a chair.

John Morrison faced Sheamus to become the No. 1 Contender to the WWE Championship in a ladder match, with Morrison winning in a solid bout. A couple of screwy finishes saw The Miz retain his WWE Championship against Randy Orton in a tables match, the first was a table break that never happened to Orton, the second was after a push by Miz’s friend Alex Riley. Nice way to book your Champion…

A saving grace was the awesome fatal four-way TLC Match for the World Heavyweight Championship, pitting champion Kane against Rey Mysterio, Edge and Alberto Del Rio. A match featuring Edge and Mystery could never be anything but amazing, throwing Kane and Del Rio in as well only turned it up a notch. In the end, Edge got his hands on the belt after last taking out Kane with a steel chair whilst on the ladder, followed by a shoulder block through a ringside table. Edge would climb the ladder for the gold.

Some great matches, slightly spoiled by the destruction of Barrett by a somewhat selfish Cena, made this one of the better TLC cards.
