NXT Championship Match
Finn Balor (c) vs. Sami Zayn vs. Baron Corbin
Throw your Champion, a returning star and your up and coming heel into a match and this is what you get. An unreal triple threat match with a little bit of everything involved this match certainly didn’t disappoint.
Corbin made his entrance first but this was more about the two men who followed. Finn Balor is undoubtedly the man in NXT, everything about him screams money. Sami Zayn is one of the best loved wrestlers in the world and got an outstanding reception here.
Balor and Zayn started the match off, with Corbin happy to let them fight. Corbin would jump in to attack both men as they locked up. That lead to Balor and Zayn teaming up to take out the big man. Zayn and Balor hit some sweet moves on each other with both men keen to impress during an intense few minutes. One of the highlights of shows like these is when we see the men involved having some fun. We saw that in a big way here as first Sami put on Finn’s leather jacket to impersonate the champ, before Balor put on both Sami’s jacket and flat cap to do his own tribute to the challenger. This brought the house down and showed the charisma both men have in buckets.
We saw Corbin take over before again being taken out by both men. With Corbin thrown out to ringside Balor made a dive through the ropes onto him before Sami hit a massive somersault dive over the top rope onto both men.
Back in the ring we saw Balor and Zayn hit their big moves on each other before we headed to the finish. With Corbin out at ringside Balor went to the top to apparently hit the coup de grace, Zayn recovered though and it was Corbin who came back in to hit a power bomb on Sami from the top. As Corbin covered Zayn, Balor hit the double stomp from the top to then get the winning pin on Corbin. This was the perfect way to finish off a great card and an all round amazing event.
We knew that Sami Zayn was making his comeback on this tour but we never expected it to be quite this epic. Big things will come from him in the next few months, lets just hop that includes him getting his hands on that lovely shiny belt that Mr Balor currently holds so dearly.
Seeing Zayn and Balor embrace after the match, followed by an attempted handshake with Corbin was a good touch. Corbin wanted none of it so was taken out by the pair of them. Balor hit the big drop kick into the corner, Sami hit the Heluva Kick and Corbin was done for the night. Sami cheekily took a handshake from him as he laid on the mat. Balor ended the night by sharing a “Too Sweet” hand gesture with Zayn, followed by a little bit of dancing to cheers and the show ended with a huge NXT chant from the crowd.
