WWE Royal Rumble 2016: 5 Potential Surprise Entrants

4) Sgt. Slaughter

This is probably a little less exciting than the first three guys I listed, but I’m never opposed to an impromptu appearance by Sarge. If you were to bet on anyone on this list to actually enter the Royal Rumble, Sgt. Slaughter is probably your best bet. As we saw last year with The Boogeyman and Diamond Dallas Paige, WWE loves calling on their guys who they’ve signed to legends contracts to show up at the Rumble now and then.

Among the guys who are currently signed to legends contracts, Slaughter figures to be one of the only guys who could actually enter the Rumble this year. With Boogeyman and DDP unlikely to appear two years in a row, the only other guys who could realistically enter are X-Pac, Tatanka, or Ricky Steamboat. And among them, I imagine Slaughter would probably be the most relevant one to the fans.

Sgt. Slaughter is just one of those guys who belongs in the Royal Rumble. At some point about halfway through the match, his music hits, the announcers go “Hey look its Sarge! He’s back!”, he gets in the ring, beats some guys up, and is probably eliminated after 5 minutes. It’s always fun to be reminded that at any given moment, Sgt. Slaughter could show up and bust somebody up.
