8. Elimination Chamber
Date: May 31, 2015
Venue: American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas
The impromptu Elimination Chamber pay-per-view was marred by two pitiful Elimination Chamber matches, but it also featured the first act of two rivalries that would carry on into Money in the Bank.
The official main event featured the first WWE Heavyweight Championship bout between Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. This match was great because Ambrose and Rollins didn’t utilize any death-defying spots to add excitement to the bout; it was a pure wrestling match.
The ending was awful: Rollins pushed the ref into a flying elbow by Ambrose, and even though Ambrose picked up the pinfall shortly after—a moment that was awesome—the refs retroactively reversed the decision and said Ambrose only won by DQ, thus not allowing him to keep the belt. Ambrose proceeded to steal the title anyway.
The match of the night, though, was John Cena facing off against the debuting Kevin Owens. After a phenomenal battle where neither man ever left the ring, Kevin Owens shocked the world with a clean victory over Cena.
Cena would go on to pick up the next two wins in their series—a booking decision that is still hotly debated—however Owens’ first match was one of the most impressive debuts of all time.
