6. Extreme Rules

Date: Apr. 26, 2015

Venue: Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois

Extreme Rules may rely on gimmick matches far too heavily, but this year’s iteration ended up being a solid show through and through, especially considering just how odd the gimmicks were this time around.

Remember the “Kiss Me Arse” match? Weird concept, yes, but the wrestling in the match between Ziggler and Sheamus was actually fun to watch.

How about a Chicago Street Fight between Dean Amborse and Luke Harper? Again, entertaining from start to finish.

And don’t forget that the night featured the New Day winning the tag belts for the first time from Cesaro and Kidd, which coincided with the onset of the New Day’s new demeanor.

There were definitely some serious lows, including Nikki Bella defending the Diva’s Championship against Naomi, and a bizarre Russian Chain Match (!?) where Cena squared off against Rusev. But aside from those matches, the show went out on two high notes.

Roman Reigns faced The Big Show in a Last Man Standing match that was far better than anyone could’ve imagined, and after that, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton went to town in a cage match where Randy Orton wasn’t allowed to use the RKO (but apparently Rollins was).

Extreme Rules was 2015’s strangest show, but that by no means hindered the event.
