WWE Should Say No to Jeff Hardy Return

Jeff Hardy told Ric Flair on a podcast that he would like to return to the WWE. Here’s why a third run in the company is not best for business.

A few weeks ago, there were some comments made about feeling a bit of déjà vu with the Wyatt Family feuding with a few ECW originals. It wasn’t in a good way because of the whole ECW brand in WWE that just fell flat after a few months of strong initial momentum – that’s because we all love some nostalgia in our lives.

That déjà vu returned when I read the stories online about Jeff Hardy discussing his interest in returning to the WWE during an episode of Ric Flair’s WOOOOO Nation! Podcast.

"“I think there’s a huge possibility down the road. I’m not sure when, but I think both Matt and myself would love to end our careers in the WWE and it’d be super, double great to be able to have a few more good ones with the Dudley Boyz, for sure. As far as us returning [to WWE] and having some more matches with them, it all depends on how long they’re going to be there and how long it takes us to get there. I mean, but, definitely, it’s a possibility. I’m just not sure when right now.”"

And as I listened to him speak, the more I sounded like Vegeta from an episode of Team Four Star’s Dragon Ball Z: Abridged.

Yep. Not sure if I’m the only one who feels like this. Sure, if we wanted to play the game of fantasy booking, it would be amazing to see Jeff Hardy in a few matches with some of the recent WWE and NXT acquisitions from the past few years; including Cesaro, Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn and even Kevin Owens.

But this isn’t the Hardy who returned in 2006 at the age of 29 and was able to work his way to becoming the WWE Champion. This is the 38-year-old Hardy who has not only had some injuries in recent years but also had a few drug problems that culminated to the infamous 90-second against Sting for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Victory Road in 2011.

Of course, he is still with TNA and there might be a chance that Mr. Hardy has stepped away from his substance addiction. Yet there has to be some concern with the willingness of putting an aging superstar who has had to leave the WWE due to multiple strikes against his record not once, but twice.

There are way too many talented superstars who are trying to get noticed by WWE and with the evolving NXT brand providing a new stage for these young stars, there’s not really a need to bring someone like Hardy to return to WWE. He may have been an inspiration to a generation of high-flying wrestlers, but we wouldn’t get the same Hardy that we all think of when we remember the Charismatic Enigma who would jump off ladders and stages.

It is very possible that fans would like to see both Jeff and Matt come back for a few tag team matches with the Dudley Boys, but I don’t know how much longer these two can last and when the WWE has such a demanding schedule, it is not a good recipe in the end.

It’s probably best if we left Hardy’s WWE return to his imagination.
