AJ Styles to Face Roman Reigns for WWE World Heavyweight Championship
By Evan Gomes
AJ Styles won a fatal 4-way No. 1 Contender’s match for the chance to face Roman Reigns.
He’s only been in the WWE for a little over 3 months, but AJ Styles is going to be competing for the biggest prize of them all. AJ Styles bested his constant WWE rival Chris Jericho, super-heel Kevin Owens and the returning Cesaro to earn a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
When newly crowned champion Roman Reigns came out to a smattering of boos, he said he wasn’t a good guy or a bad guy. Just “THE Guy”. He then challenged whoever wanted a shot at the belt to make themselves known. Styles, Owens, Jericho & Sami Zayn answered the call.

After the men brawled and left Reigns standing tall, Shane McMahon made the match for the main event.
Sami Zayn would be taken out of the match before it even started. His longtime friend/enemy Owens took him out backstage.
Shane McMahon directed that it would still be a fatal 4 way. The returning Cesaro would turn out to be the fourth man.
The match itself was constant action. The four men all looked like they could win and go on to face Reigns at the next pay-per-view. Cesaro looked like he had the match locked up once he put Jericho in the Sharpshooter. Styles would connect with a Phenomenal Forearm to break it up.
Eventually Styles would hit long-time rival Jericho with a Styles Clash to get the impressive victory:
With the surprising victory, WWE has gone in a direction not many people expected. The next challenger for Reigns was unclear, but that lead to the match being so much fun. Any of the four men in the match had the chance to become number one contender, but it was the former IWGP Champion Styles that got the honour only one night after losing his Wrestlemania debut.
Now WWE has some interesting character choices to make. Styles has been booked as a fan favourite so far in his run with the company. Does that mean a heel turn is incoming for the Roman Empire? Or will WWE continue with his gimmick of being above labels of heel or face, and just being Roman?
Also, where does that leave the other match competitors? Who will Owens, Cesaro and Jericho feud with next?
One night after a somewhat disappointing Wrestlemania, WWE has taken the title picture into a fresh new direction.
