NJPW Invasion Attack Prediction: Kazuchika Okada vs. Tetsuya Naito

With the IWGP Heavyweight Championship on the line, who will leave with the gold at Invasion Attack, Tetsuya Naito or Kazuchika Okada?

New Japan Pro Wrestling has been through a multitude of changes over the past few months. After the highly successful and acclaimed Wrestle Kingdom 10 event in January, NJPW took a major hit talent-wise when the company lost AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows. While many companies would be in trouble after losing four top tier talents in one fell swoop, NJPW has continued to flourish and produce new top talents.

With many top tier talents leaving, superstars that have stayed in NJPW have been stepping up using this opportunity to move up the ranks on the roster. One of those stars who has jumped on this is Tetsuya Naito. Since last year, Naito has changed his personality drastically. Originally trying to work as a fan favorite, Naito got no love from the crowd, occasionally being booed even if facing a villain.

This was evident three years ago when the fans voted to see Nakamura and Hiroshi Tanahashi in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 8, rather than seeing Naito compete for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Being fed up Naito changed his attitude and became a heel joining the faction Los Ingobernables in Mexico.

Naito soon formed his own version of the Ingobernables, Los Ingobernables de Japon. He recruited Bushi and Evil into his faction, and since the end of last year they have been causing havoc in NJPW. After defeating Hirooki Goto in the New Japan Cup Finals, Naito earned the right to compete for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Invasion Attack.

Naito will be facing current champion Okada, who has been the face of NJPW for the last couple of years. He also has been on a major hot streak. After winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship from AJ Styles at Old Dominion last July, Okada has been untouchable.

After defeating Styles in a rematch in the fall, Okada concurred his Wrestle Kingdom demons when he was finally able to defeat Tanahashi in the main event. Okada then defeated Goto back at New Beginning. Okada will now look to defeat one of the hottest superstars in NJPW.

Prediction: Kazuchika Okada defeats Tetsuya Naito via pinfall.

This should be a very exciting match. Naito’s and Okada’s styles should mesh well. Expect a couple close calls and Okada and Naito kicking out of one another finishers. While it would be great to see Naito finally win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, Kazuchika Okada is NJPW top star and it doesn’t look like the championship will come off of him anytime soon.

NJPW has consistently been putting on 5-star matches for the last couple of years and this match should be no different. Naito will wanna use this chance to solidify himself as a main eventer in New Japan going forward. While it will be a close back and forth contest, Kazuchika Okada the leader of Chaos will come up triumphant against the leader of Los Ingobernables de Japon, Tetsuya Naito.
