Why Seth Rollins Should Be the Face Against Roman Reigns

Seth Rollins returning as a good guy against a heel Roman Reigns might be what’s best for business for WWE.

There is a good chance that when Seth Rollins makes his return to WWE, he will be welcomed with one of the biggest live crowd pops in recent history. The man definitely developed into a main event level star ever since he had the shocking WrestleMania moment of cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase during the main event championship match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.

At the same time, it’s no secret what the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion is going to do when he makes his return; challenge whoever is holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. And while it would be amazing to see Seth Rollins vs AJ Styles for the championship; common wisdom of WWE’s booking draws to the conclusion the title will still belong to “The Guy.”

There has been increased excitement lately considering that Rollins is now being rumored for a return to WWE television in early June. This would be a perfect time to start a slow building storyline that leads to the championship match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins at SummerSlam in August; giving fans the match that was originally planned for Survivor Series back in November.

One would automatically assume that Rollins should be booked as the heel for the storyline, but that hasn’t necessarily worked well with having Styles booked in a similar role as the challenge to Reigns’ championship. Let’s face it, the current champion is not getting over as a face since so many people have not been a big fan of his title reign – whether the opinion is that some fans hate his booking being predictable or the fact that some fans think he has the personality of a water-soaked block of wood.

It’s not like Reigns is at fault since he’s doing his job, but the WWE creative did has done him no favors. While the company may have wanted to make him the top face of the company to eventually take the reigns – no pun intended – from John Cena, it might be better if the WWE took the Roman Reigns character and had him get over as a heel. Sometimes, you have to be a good villain before becoming a good hero.

On the flip side, the Seth Rollins character has evolved very well and could easily fill the void as the type of wrestler who is focused on putting on the best show possible to showcase his talents. Think of Rollins possibly becoming the modern day highlight reel that talents like Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart were. That’s not to say Rollins is going to be one of the greatest of all time, but he has a similar passion and work ethic considering that he fully embraced the roles he was given and ran with the ball.

Maybe it will be a short run for Rollins being the face and Reigns being the heel, but most talents usually have multiple changes between good and bad during their careers. At least this idea would provide something a little more different than what most WWE fans are expecting; and that’s best for business.
