In a rematch from WWE Payback, Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose met in the first-ever Asylum match at WWE Extreme Rules.

This resulted in a brawl between the two men, and Mitch the Plant was a casualty when Jericho smashed the potted plant on Ambrose’s head. The feuding continued, and Jericho later attacked Ambrose and put him in a straightjacket.

The assault inspired Ambrose to invent the Asylum match, pitting Ambrose and Jericho in a cage to settle their bad blood.

A variety of items—including a fire extinguisher, nunchucks and a potted plant—adorned the top of the cage.

Ambrose was on the offensive early, throwing Jericho around the cage. He would then pull down a mop from the top of the cage and jab Jericho in the face with it.

He continued using the mop to add insult to injury.

Both men later armed themselves—Jericho with the barbed wired 2×4 and Dean Ambrose with the nunchucks.

Jericho eventually took control, repeatedly hitting Ambrose with a kendo stick and a leather strap.

Ambrose managed to turn the tables, though.

But Jericho made his veteran presence know.

So Ambrose had to use his own body as a weapon, leaping off the cage to hit Jericho with the elbow.

Ambrose furthered the insanity by pouring tacks all over the ring.

Jericho wouldn’t back down. He mounted a solid offense until Ambrose reversed the Code Breaker and tossed Jericho on the tacks.

Ambrose connected with Dirty Deeds thereafter and picked up the pinfall.
