Bray Wyatt: WWE’s Last Chance to Build Main Event Superstar

Bray Wyatt has been one of the best in-ring performers in the WWE, but a series of losses in high-profile matches means that this is the company’s last chance to build Wyatt as a main event superstar.

The return of Bray Wyatt to WWE television has been interesting over the past few weeks, especially considering that he and the other members of the Wyatt Family are being booked into a feud with the New Day – the current WWE Tag Team Champions. With a match sure to be taking place soon, one would assume that the WWE is finally going to place some championship hardware around Wyatt’s waist, right?

Since coming to the WWE’s main roster in July 2012, we’ve seen some of the best promo work in years with the Wyatt character and some interesting buildups for matches against the likes of John Cena, Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns. The only problem is that the end result is the opponent coming out on top of a feud with Wyatt.

And the newest storyline has him going against the likes of Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods – who happens to be terrified of the Eater of Worlds. The only reason this should even be an actual feud is for the WWE to have the Wyatt Family win the WWE Tag Team Championship.

The problem with how the WWE has booked Bray Wyatt is that he’s been pushed as the next big thing in the WWE, only to be knocked down a peg with pay-per-view losses. His rivalry with Cena ended in a loss at WrestleMania and there was no benefit to him losing to Reigns or Jericho. At some point, the man needs to be given some big wins if the WWE does plan on having him become one of the next big villains in the WWE.

Having someone who talks about being the face of fear has to have something to help him back up the argument. That feud with Kane when he debuted in 2013 didn’t really have much of a follow-up. It went from thinking that Kane was going to join the family to becoming Corporate Kane on television. Where was the explanation for how the Wyatt’s abduction by the Wyatt Family led to him changing his demeanor?

That doesn’t mean a win for the Wyatt Family should mean the end for the New Day. It’s unclear what the backstory is about Woods being nervous with Wyatt, but one can hope it doesn’t lead to a heel turn and a breakup of the New Day. Its one thing to have new WWE Tag Team Champions, but it would be a hit towards the depth of WWE’s tag team division that needs to have as many teams on the active roster as possible – especially with the upcoming brand split and the WWE Draft coming on July 19.

If the WWE wants to make Bray Wyatt a top star, they have to start giving him wins. That means having them go over the New Day. Otherwise, a loss for the Wyatt Family would just be another reason why fans will not be able to believe in Bray Wyatt as a main event superstar in the WWE.
