John Cena vs. AJ Styles Set for WWE SummerSlam 2016

After a jam-packed episode of SmackDown, John Cena and AJ Styles will again do battle at SummerSlam.

John Cena will once again square off  with the Phenomenal AJ Styles. This time, it will be at one of the biggest stages of them all, SummerSlam. SummerSlam already proving to be one of the most anticipated cards of the year, has added yet another barn burner to the show. Already with matches such as Randy Orton vs Brock Lesnar, Dean Ambrose vs Dolph Ziggler, Seth Rollins vs Finn Balor, and Charlotte vs Sasha Banks, this card has the makings  for some serious fireworks. on August 21st.

SummerSlam will be stacked from top to bottom. Cena vs Styles has a match of the year candidate written all over it. It may even top Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn which occurred at the BattleGround pay per view just last month. This time, Styles claims he will be all by himself without the help from his buddies from Japan, The Club. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson are now on Raw split apart from their leader, Styles.

With both Raw and SmackDown at SummerSlam, it is possible that The Club may interfere, however I do believe that is unlikely. Then again, Cena is certainly no stranger to getting screwed at SummerSlam. Just last year, Rollins had Jon Stewart of the Daily Show end Cena’s chances at becoming the first to hold both the United States and the WWE World Heavyweight Championships.

If The Club does in fact show up, perhaps this will set up a match at a SmackDown only pay per view, such as Backlash or No Mercy in the near future. However, it being SummerSlam in the new era, my thoughts lean towards this one being a fair contest. Will Cena finish off Styles again like he did in their six-man tag team match at BattleGround? Or will it be Styles?

SmackDown is attempting to make Cena one of the most popular superstars once again on their brand. They made Styles the ultimate heel to do so. Styles calling out the children as well as their parents for believing in the message Cena always tries to relay.

The crowd seemed to really side with Cena here as he defended himself. At least for the time being, Cena is becoming more popular with his attitude and use of profanity. Cena then, thanked the crowd for the opportunity to live his dream every single day; claiming he could not do it without them.

Of course, Cena will always have his haters. The “Let’s go Cena” chants appeared to outweigh the “Cena Sucks” chants. Cena is here out of love as he proclaimed on Tuesday night.  There is no other place for Cena. He loves putting on a show for the crowd each and every week. Fans are beginning to realize that and respect Cena more.
