Dolph Ziggler Needs to Turn Heel at WWE SummerSlam
By Jay Sichler
With his biggest match in years at Summerslam, Dolph Ziggler needs to make an impact by turning heel at the big event.
Summerslam will commence on Sunday, live on the WWE Network from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The card is stacked with a ton of great matches, making this one of the most anticipated Summerslam’s in years.
One of the biggest matches will be Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship. Ziggler earned the right to face Ambrose at Summerslam when he won a six-pack challenge on the first Smackdown Live following the draft.
The stage is now set for the Lunatic Fringe and The Showoff to clash in this highly anticipated matchup. This opportunity presents Dolph with his most important match in years. After being lost in the shuffle for the last few years Ziggler finally has a chance to show he can stay in the main event picture moving forward.
A major way Dolph Ziggler can remain a perennial main eventer is if the former Kent State star turns heel at Summerslam. For the last few weeks, we have seen the frustration and anger Dolph has had with both management and the fans not believing in him.
This new attitude should transpire in Ziggler turning into a heel after his match whether he wins or losses. With Smackdown being stacked with three big faces in Ambrose, John Cena, and Randy Orton.

With these huge names on the blue brand and all being faces, Ziggler will most likely drop out of the main event picture. If Ziggler was to become a heel he could be used in the main event picture, with only AJ Styles and Bray Wyatt serving as the other big heels on the brand.
If Dolph Ziggler loses the match he could attack Ambrose after the match in frustration thus turning him heel. If Ziggler was to win the match he could cut a promo turning on the fans saying that he never needed them.

Dolph turning heel could also continue a program with Dean Ambrose for the next few months. If Ziggler stays face it would make no point for him to continue a feud with the Lunatic Fringe. However, if The Showoff attacks Ambrose after the match, or beats Ambrose in a cocky way, it could set up the latter man seeking revenge on Dolph continuing the feud in the process.
A heel change for Ziggler would also spice up his character. The former world champion has not been a full-fledged heel since 2012, so returning back to his heel persona could help garner a big run for him on Smackdown going forward.
With his career finally getting a chance to become meaningful again, Dolph Ziggler needs to become a heel at Summerslam. The move will help regenerate his career and will help him stay in the main event scene on Smackdown.
