4 Reasons Bobby Roode is the Next Triple H in WWE

Bobby Roode has often been compared to Triple H throughout his career, but now that he’s in NXT we could see him live up to the hype.

Ever since Bobby Roode appeared in the crowd at June’s NXT TakeOver: The End, I’ve been concerned. Concerned that WWE didn’t recognize the level of talent they had in Roode. It wouldn’t have been the first time a superstar from another company came in and was slotted well beneath their skill level.

With Roode, it would have been especially disappointing, though. During Roode’s 12-year career in TNA Impact Wrestling, he has often been compared to Triple H. I’ve frequently referred to him as TNA’s “Game” because clearly, that was what they wanted him to be. They needed a superstar who had HHH’s combination of strength, skill, attitude, craftiness, and diversity. They needed someone who presented himself as being at the top of the food chain then went out to the ring and proved to audiences why he deserved to be there.

And Roode filled the bill, but it wasn’t always that way. Like HHH, he had to evolve. HHH began as a blue blood, then the obnoxious leader of Degeneration-X, then he took over as part of the McMahon-Helmsley Era (Note: My favorite period in WWE ever), and that springboarded him into the dominating authoritative figure he is now. Roode began as the muscle of Team Canada, then the Wall Street-inspired Robert Roode, before finding tag team success as part of Beer Money, which allowed him to show his comic side. Eventually, he broke free and took on his most endearing trait, a willingness to do anything and turn on anyone to be the champion. Sound like anybody we know?

The comparisons go deeper than just their career evolutions, and now that Roode has had his in-ring debut at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II the similarities are coming into focus.
