What Does Triple H’s Return Mean for WWE Raw?

Triple H is back on WWE Monday Night Raw. But, what does the return of The Game mean?

Kevin Owens is now the WWE Universal Champion.

Though, Owens won the WWE Universal championship thanks to no part of his own. Towards the end of the elimination fatal four-way match on Monday Night Raw, Owens along with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins were the remaining competitors. When it had seemed that Reigns was about to take control and win the match, Triple H made his long-awaited return to WWE programming.

Triple H delivered a pedigree to Reigns and put Rollins in a position to eliminate his former Shield teammate. After Reigns was eliminated, The Game threw Owens back into the ring. The thought was that Trips would hit Owens with a pedigree and then Rollins would secure the victory. Instead, the WWE COO shocked the WWE Universe by hitting a pedigree on Rollins. The Game then gave his approval to Owens, who then pinned Rollins and became the WWE Universal champion.

One of the biggest takeaways from that pay-per-view quality main event is that Triple H is back but what does that mean?

It means several things with the biggest impact being on Seth Rollins and Wrestlemania 33.

More from Daily DDT

By delivering a pedigree on Rollins, Triple H essentially ignited the face turn for the former architect of The Shield. With Rollins on the doorsteps of becoming a face and being screwed by his former mentor, the WWE Universe will rally behind him. The WWE Universe will rally behind Rollins the same way they rallied behind Daniel Bryan when he feuded with Triple H. The question is when will we see the match between Triple H and Rollins? There is a long time between now and Wrestlemania 33 in April. Could Rollins and The Cerebral Assassin really feud without having a match until Wrestlemania? It seems unlikely so perhaps the Rollins and Triple H match happens at either Survivor Series or the Royal Rumble.

Then, there is the impact that Triple H’s return has on the authority structure of Monday Night Raw.

Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley were both at ringside during the main event on Raw and witnessed HHH’s return firsthand. Both McMahon and Foley seemed surprised by Triple H’s actions. He was not drafted to either Raw or Smackdown Live so chances are he will continue to operate under his COO role. If Triple H is acting on his own behalf and not with Foley or McMahon, then this would create a great power struggle on Raw. A power struggle that would eventually culminate in match at Wrestlemania 33.
