WWE’s Top 10 Most Controversial Storylines

2. Mae Young & Mark Henry
How Mark Henry didn’t walk out of the WWE in the Fall of 1999 is still something that baffles me. After being subjected to a sex addict gimmick that saw him attend therapy sessions where he confessed that he lost his virginity to his sister at 8 years old and was currently still sleeping with her and having a backstage run-in with a transvestite, it was safe to say Henry’s career was going nowhere fast.
And just when the WWE Universe thought that this angle couldn’t be any more crude, enter 77-year-old Mae Young to the mix. As if the idea of these two carrying on a sexual affair wasn’t revolting enough, the angle turned even more bizarre when Young reported to Henry that she was expecting his child. This turn of events led to what can be described as potentially one of the vilest displays of cable TV of all time when Young went into labor and delivered a bloody rubber hand. That’s right. A bloody hand. It came out of her body. On national television. Set aside how absolutely disgusting that is for a minute, and how about the fact that it made precisely zero sense.
Fortunately for Henry and the WWE fans, the angle slowly fizzled out and he was sent down to Ohio Valley Wrestling to work on his conditioning. Henry returned to the main roster 2 years later and would go on to have a very successful in-ring career that included becoming a world champion. However, it will be next to impossible to ever completely rid him of the stink that was the Mae Young fiasco.
