How Should WWE Use Goldberg If He Returns to the Company?
By Carl Gac
There are strong rumous that Goldberg is set to make his return to WWE, but how should he be used if he is to return?
This Wednesday, the man known to wrestling fans around the world as Goldberg, will make an appearance on ESPN SportsCenter “Off The Top Rope”. He is apparently going to talk about the upcoming release of WWE 2K17, the game in which he is heavily featured. On the most recent episode of Raw, Michael Cole told us about the appearance, and the fact that Goldberg would be talking about his relationship with WWE. Don’t be surprised if Goldberg uses the platform to announce he has signed a deal with WWE.
According to F4WOnline, Goldberg is in the “very strong discussion stage” about a return to WWE. After a 14 year absence from the company, the return of one of the biggest stars of the late 1990’s could be considered a much-needed boost to the WWE. We also noted a rumor about his potential Survivor Series return. But how should he be used?
The final match of Goldberg’s previous WWE tenure was against a man who is currently one of WWE’s greatest assets, Brock Lesnar. Both men left the company immediately following the match at WrestleMania 20. The fans in attendance that night knew that was about to happen, and absolutely destroyed both me throughout the match. Even the addition of Stone Cold Steve Austin as the special guest referee couldn’t deter the fans from vocally showing their displeasure towards both men.
However, the match that saw Goldberg leave the company, should be the exact same one that sees him return to it. It should also be on the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania. You may think that ‘Mania is more than six months away, but that’s more than enough time to build both men to boiling point for an epic clash.
Lesnar has been virtually untouchable since ,making his return to the WWE from the world of WWE. Even when he’s been up against some of the biggest stars the company has to offer, Lesnar has thrown them around like rag dolls and dominated anyone who’s stepped into his path. Step up Goldberg to be the man to finally strike fear into Lesnar. After all, the former WCW star did win the final encounter back at ‘Mania 20.

On this week’s episode of Raw, we saw Braun Strowman destroy another “local talent” and then tell us that he wanted some real competition or he would be a problem for Raw GM Mick Foley. Despite the fact that Goldberg’s first proper match should be against Lesnar, why not have him spear Strowman out of his boots in the middle of the ring with the monster looking set to attack Foley?

Instantly you’d the show the fans that Goldberg is a big deal, that he’s the one man capable of taking out Strowman. A few weeks down the line you have a cocky looking Lesnar come out on Raw and talk about how he’s destroyed everyone in his path. Only for Goldberg to hit back and tell the former UFC Champion that he remembers pinning him way back when.
Maybe have the two of them come face to face during the Royal Rumble in January, with perhaps Strowman being the man to eliminate them both, that then sees them both furious and desperate for a big match. That can be where Raw GM Foley pulls the trump card of having them both sign a match for ‘Mania, and them both being ordered to not touch each other until they are in the ring on that fateful night.
With Lesnar spending the last year or two as a more or less part-time talent, and Goldberg more than likely to come back in a similar fashion, you have a clash of two behemoth’s that will end in an all out war. Both men will be desperate to get the win, but fans will more than likely be split down the middle.
