Sami Zayn, Neville Can Benefit from Teaming Up on WWE Raw
By Tom Thomas
What can be done to make sure Sami Zayn and Neville aren’t lost in the shuffle without any meaningful feud at the moment.
When the WWE Draft took place, big changes were expected to the main event scene. While what we have seen so far is completely a welcome change, creative still has room for improvement. Stars like Sami Zayn and Neville, who are popular with the fans, linger around trying to find a place on the roster. While there is certainly no shortage of talent between those two, they still struggle to find TV time every week on Raw.
It is hard to believe that Zayn and Neville were once the cornerstones of NXT. There is a lot of on-screen respect that has been shared between them, which can go back to their rivalry from 2014. With so much chemistry and history behind them, why not let them work together?
It can be understood that not everyone can be given the same amount of air time and creative freedom. However, Raw is a three-hour show, so there has to be some room in there for Zayn and Neville. Despite having an hour less, SmackDown does a better job of making sure all its stars are properly showcased, which Raw can learn from. Showcasing these two individually and then building them up to be main event talent might be difficult. It will require the creative to spend more time and effort on them.
Why not pair them up then? We have already seen these two team up against the Dudley Boyz, and the fans certainly liked what they saw.
Zayn and Neville both boast a variety of flashy moves. Given the time, they can certainly gel into a good tag team. WWE needs to go back to its old ways of putting two superstars as a tag team. It helps to build them as stars at a later time. Also, it helps to create rivalries that can headline pay-per-views when the teams eventually implode.

Teaming up Cesaro and Sheamus was a great idea. It gives them both something to do and keeps the spotlight on both of them. Teaming up Slater with Rhyno was a great idea too. The unlikely odd pairing took off with the crowd and culminated with Slater and Rhyno winning the SmackDown tag team titles. In the past, we even saw legendary pairings like Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit or Edge and Rey Mysterio.
WWE can take a similar root with Zayn and Neville. They don’t need to immediately contend for tag team titles, but should take a slow burn approach. Have them team up, take on more heel duos and win matches consistently for months. If they are not competing in any matches for a week, at least feature them in some backstage vignettes. This will keep them both relevant.
Finally, when the right moment comes along, WWE can pull the trigger on this talented duo and have them compete for the gold. Against a hard-hitting duo like The Club, they would make the perfect babyface team. If creative wants to get a bit fancy, turn Cesaro and Sheamus heel once the initial wave of popularity runs over. Then have Zayn and Neville step up to them.

Pairing them up would be a win-win for all parties involved. Zayn needs a quality rivalry and Neville needs some much-needed air time. They both need direction and motive at the moment. Kevin Owens took off to the skies and is beyond Sami Zayn’s reach. Neville is in a deeper trouble at the moment. People may have forgotten that he was once the NXT champion. WWE needs to address this situation soon and make sure they do something about it. That needs to happen before Zayn and Neville are one day referred to as ‘missed opportunities’.
