Why Seth Rollins’ WWE Raw Face Turn Has Fallen Short

Why Seth Rollins babyface run on WWE Raw hasn’t gone so smoothly.

As Hell in a Cell nears on Sunday night, Seth Rollins will face Kevin Owens inside the structure for the WWE Universal Championship.  But with unanswered questions pertaining to Rollins, and a third party in Chris Jericho taking over his feud things aren’t going exactly as planned for the Architect.

Rollins’ face turn has been coming for months.  When it happens courtesy of Triple H, he disappears from the scene and now fans are wondering what the deal is.  Endless weeks of no answers have left fans tuning out of what should have been a stellar top story.  By the time Triple H comes back around, will fans even care?  Stephanie McMahon’s vague answers every week on Raw aren’t doing any favors.  The Owens and Jericho show is entertaining no doubt, but it is essentially covering up the main problem with this feud.

With the feuds of Sasha Banks and Charlotte followed with Roman Reigns and Rusev having much more momentum, they are the talk of Hell in a Cell, not the Universal Championship feud.  There is a problem when Jericho’s List is the focus of the show instead of the heat between Rollins and Owens.  If anything, it proves how genius Jericho is in this feud.  He’s the most over part of this, and he’s not even in the match up.  In this case, not even he can save the damage of Rollins v. Owens.

It was alluded to on Monday night’s show that there is about to be tension between Jericho and Owens.  But what does that do for Rollins if he doesn’t win on Sunday?  Jericho could very well be the reason as to why Owens will lose Sunday night.  It looks as if there will be a feud between them after Rollins and Owens run its course.  Even if Rollins wins, is that when Triple H comes back?  Do you see the dilemma in this?  All of this is making my head hurt.  Regardless the outcome for Rollins, he is back at square one.  The writing team created a mess, and this is one of the reasons as to why I am not a fan of part-time talent in WWE.

The centerpiece of this is Triple H, and since his betrayal of Rollins, he has not been seen or heard from in regards to what he did.  For the company to have been protecting Rollins as he ascended to the top of the mountain and now he’s in a new phase, they have completely let Rollins down on this one.  Overall, he is lost in the shuffle after it is all said and done.  Is that what the company really wanted for him?

Of course, this shouldn’t fall on the players at all.  Rollins and Owens have fell victim to WWE’s trend of bad booking.  With this new era, the company should have avoided those mistakes they have made in the past.  The point is to learn from the mistakes and move on.  Apparently, they didn’t get that memo.  And today’s Superstars are suffering the consequences.
