5 Things Nia Jax Needs to Become a Top WWE Star

4. She Needs to Show Pain Tolerance, Not Just Immobility
I can see why WWE doesn’t want Nia Jax leaving her feet; they’re going for an early 1990s Undertaker approach to her booking. But as cool as they might think that is, having someone be as immobile as the Great Khali in 2016 is like signing a death warrant for one’s career.
Today’s fans don’t want to see two mammoths fighting in barely mobile contests or a bigger person swatting their opponents away like an insect. In today’s wrestling world, athleticism and versatility are the most cherished virtues, which is something WWE aren’t letting Nia Jax showcase.
If Nia Jax is to become a top star in the women’s division, she needs to start showing more depth and relatability as a character. Seeing her stand there without feeling any pain at all won’t get her over with the audience. What she needs to do is be a sponge for damage and show that she’s actually in pain.
No one is going to care if a jobber throws all of their offense at Jax if all she’s going to do is stand there. But if that jobber gradually gets more and more damage in, there will be more intrigue in the match, and people would cheer for that person, hoping they’d have a chance at winning.
Achieving that goal requires Jax to get thrown around. It necessitates that her opponents be able to hurt her, to weaken her gradually, to place her in a vulnerable situation. A true star can absorb as much punishment as they can dish out.
Only those wrestlers that keep a match balanced (i.e. with both wrestlers having a chance of winning) rise to the top. As long as Jax keeps demolishing weak jobbers without taking a major beating, she won’t become a big star.
