WWE Survivor Series 2016: Why SmackDown Women’s Team Needs to Beat Raw
By Jay Sichler
With the top Women of RAW and Smackdown Live batting at Survivor Series, the Women on the blue brand need to leave Survivor Series victorious.
Sunday Night, Survivor Series will see RAW and Smackdown Live battle one another for the first time since the brand extension. The pay-per-view event will consist of 5 matches that will pit the best of RAW against the best of Smackdown Live.
One of the matches we will see at Survivor Series will feature the 5 top women of RAW against the top 5 women of Smackdown Live. Team RAW will consist of Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Nia Jax and Alicia Fox. Team Smackdown Live will consist of Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Nikki Bella, Carmella, and Naomi.
Along with the 5 women on each team, each squad will have a female on the outside as Natalya will be in the corner of team Smackdown Live, while RAW will have Dana Brooke in their corner. Charlotte will be captaining the RAW squad while Nikki Bella will be the captain for team Smackdown Live.
Going into the event most people believe that the females on RAW will leave the Survivor Series victorious. However, the girls on the Blue Brand should be the ones winning the big match at the big pay per view.
Despite having the overall better show since the brand extension, Smackdown is still considered by many as the 2nd tier show. A win against RAW would show that the women are on the same pace and level as RAW.
A win for Smackdown Live would also show that the division’s new stars are on the same level as the girls on RAW. When the rosters were split, RAW seemed to originally have the better division on paper.
When the draft happened RAW took Charlotte, Sasha Banks, and Paige. A few weeks later they added Bayley to the roster as well. Despite having a big four the roster failed to add strength after those three. Nia Jax is still a work in progress and Alica Fox and Summer Rae have never been known for their skill in the ring.
The loss of Paige also hurt the brand as well. The brand has shown that despite having three legit stars they lack in depth. RAW is quickly showing that the revolving door of Charlotte, Sasha and Bayley is already getting old.
Smackdown on the hand took gambles on NXT stars Carmella and Alexa Bliss. This is along with taking established females such as Naomi and Natalya and drafting Becky Lynch as the face of the division. The brand would then add Nikki Bella at Summerslam.
The gambles of Carmella and Alexa Bliss have been huge as the two females have become the top Heel’s in the division and have helped establish that the brand has a more deep division compared to RAW.
To show that the brand can equally match up to RAW, Smackdown Live needs to win the match at Survivor Series. The win would really establish Carmella and Alexa Bliss as top competitors and show that Becky Lynch matches up to her fellow Hhorsewomen on RAW.
The win would also elevate the Smackdown’s Women’s Championship. Despite no titles being on the line, the win would elevate the newly created championship as it would show that the women competing for the title can match the girls who are RAW competing for the more established championship.
Next: Why Team Smackdown Live Needs to Beat Team RAW
Any way you look at it, Smackdown Live needs to leave Survivor Series as the winners of the women’s match. A win for the Blue Brand would do a lot more that for the girls on RAW. The win would really solidify the brand as an equal to RAW and would continue to show that the Smackdown division is the stronger deeper and better division in WWE.
