3. Every Division in NXT Has Been Gutted

Between 2014 and 2016, every division in NXT has been gutted of its top talent. That’s what the developmental brand is for, after all. Once talent is ready, they’re to debut on the main roster. Sadly, so many of the NXT call-ups in recent years were so synonymous with the NXT brand that their successors are having a hard time filling in their shoes.

Finn Balor was the face of the Heavyweight Division for a long time, and his departure has left a void that both Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura are trying to fill. But both of these two men are main roster bound sooner or later, with the ultra-charismatic Nakamura’s main roster debut likely to be sooner rather than later.

The tag team division lost several promising teams in the Vaudevillains, Enzo & Cass & American Alpha, leaving the tag division on the shoulders of a somewhat overtaxed Revival and DIY to carry the division until new challengers arrive.

But the worst hit was the women’s division, which was gutted of not only its top four wrestlers, but four of the best performers in WWE period. With Bayley’s main roster debut a few months ago, NXT lost arguably its biggest face, leaving the division lacking in relatable and strong babyfaces. Add to this the ‘promotions’ of Nia Jax and Dana Brooke and you have an even more limited women’s division.

Why else do you think that Asuka faced a returning Mickie James at NXT TakeOver: Toronto? While James is a great wrestler, her involvement proved that the regular women’s roster in NXT lacks enough talent to fill the main event slot opposite current champion Asuka.
