RAW Tag Team Title Match: The New Day (c) vs Cesaro & Sheamus
On Monday’s RAW, the big news was that in winning two triple threat tag team title matches, The New Day officially became the longest reigning champions in WWE history. But one other thing that happened which maybe not as many people noticed is that Cesaro and Sheamus were clearly the most popular tag team that night. The crowd in Philadelphia hung on their every moved and groaned at every near 3 count for the duo.
It’s been a while since any team has posed as serious a threat to the New Day as the Swiss Superman and the Celtic Warrior currently have. They’ve come close on numerous occasions and whether they win the belts or not Sunday night they have shown that they have the potential to be major tag team players in the future.
So after finally breaking Demolition’s title length record, is it time to make a change for the tag gold? Smart money points to yes. And think about this as well. It doesn’t make a ton of sense to have Sheamus and Cesaro lose on Monday night, get the #1 contender spot Tuesday night, just to lose again Sunday. For a few different reasons, the title switch makes sense. And that’s the direction they’ll go.
