WWE: Apollo Crews Needs This Feud with Dolph Ziggler

Apollo Crews needs a good feud right now, and the current one with Dolph Ziggler is just what he needs to elevate his status and get over with fans

It has been quite apparent that since his main roster call up last year, Apollo Crews hasn’t really worked. He wasn’t ready to be called up, he needed more time in NXT. The man was doing a good job in NXT, he was well on his way to becoming the top guy when he got the call-up. The company is obviously very high on him, and they should be as he oozes with talent. The recent developments on Smackdown Live are interesting, and it is leading to a feud with Dolph Ziggler.

So why is this a good thing? This is the perfect opportunity to build up Crews and expand upon Ziggler’s new heel persona. So far we have seen them clash, and it’s been a slow burn that will definitely explode in the coming weeks. Ziggler needs to claim his territory and beat down Crews, really make the fans hate him and get them wanting to cheer for Crews. The program that Crews had with The Miz wasn’t bad, and their match was pretty good but ultimately it didn’t amount to much.

There is a lot of potential with Crews, and there will certainly be titles in his future. This is the perfect opportunity to rebuild him, make him be the underdog and make the fans really care about this feud. Ziggler needs to dominate, make this heel turn really heat up. His interaction with Jerry Lawler was the perfect way to kick it off and now he has to run with it. He spent a lot of his early career as a heel, and it is what he does best. His face run was perfectly fine and it was time to change him up and make him fresh again.

This is a perfect chance for them both to really have a good mid-card feud and re-establish themselves, there definitely seems to be a spark of chemistry. The matches could be really good, with lots of exciting spots and a chance to add in some hard hitting action. It’s exciting to think about what could happen, and the booking for Smackdown Live has been on point lately. Now is the time for both of them to do something special, and this feud even if it isn’t a long one has that potential.

The feud could go in many directions, and they may even use Jerry Lawler again and even place him in Crews corner to help get him over. There is a story to be told with Ziggler’s heel turn, and they haven’t played it up too much yet. If I were booking I would have him do a complete beat down of Crews, perhaps after a backstage confrontation. They could do something at Elimination Chamber, and the payoff match could be at Wrestlemania or even on a Smackdown Live episode. A gimmick match would be a great payoff, whether it be a No Disqualification Match or something similar.

They really need to sell both guys and get everyone invested in the feud. So far it looks good, and I hope it continues to build up with a huge breaking point. As much as I have been critical of Apollo Crews’ call up, I want to see him succeed. He got something handed to him before he was ready, and he has steadily been improving and his mic skills are a lot better. Let’s give him a great chance, and if it does work out the man surely can be placed into the Intercontinental Title picture down the line. This feud can really benefit them both, and I am hoping they book it well and they surprise us all.
