WWE Elimination Chamber 2017: Analysis of the Women’s Matches
By Sarah Hirsch
The women of Smackdown get their biggest chance tonight on the main card for the Elimination Chamber.
At the Elimination Chamber tonight, there will be three women’s matches that are on the card. As of this morning, neither match has been relegated to the Kickoff show. While this isn’t clearly unheard of, if there was any doubt that the Women’s Division as a whole has lost their steam then that idea should be put to rest. No doubt Raw is regenerating their Women’s Division after the historical climax of the Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks feud. However, it is Smackdown’s turn to show fans what they can do.
Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss’ feud had history of its own and now Lynch finds herself targeting Mickie James. James would cost Lynch the chance to regain the Smackdown Women’s Championship after revealing herself as La Luchadora at the end of the Steel Cage Match several weeks ago. For now, Lynch has to put her chase of the Women’s Championship on hold to take care of her feud with James.
Bliss has had an incredible run on Smackdown, becoming the top heel for the Women’s Division since being drafted to the brand last year. The young beauty has been on a roll by doing whatever it takes to keep the Women’s Championship around her waist. Bliss now has to contend with Naomi, who has been able to pin her twice leading up to the Elimination Chamber PPV.

Perhaps the feud that has been laced with jealousy as of late is between Nikki Bella and Natalya. The Total Divas stars have been spewing some vicious words at one another since it was revealed that Natalya was the one who attacked Bella at Survivor Series. Bella continues to be the outstanding supporting Superstar who doesn’t need a Championship to make an impact in the Women’s Division.

It is safe to say that Smackdown continues to manage their roster to the best of their ability despite their depth issues. With WrestleMania on the horizon, it is the Superstars’ chance to show that they are ready to make history in Orlando. While the men have opportunities to prove themselves in multi-man matches, the women have the best chance to prove that they deserve to be on the card at WrestleMania. They perhaps have the best opportunity of them all, and all eyes will certainly be on them as they continue to build upon their division.
With all three women’s feuds, fans will see chances at redemption, payback and perhaps WrestleMania runs in the making tonight at Elimination Chamber. Another question coming out of tonight’s event is where Carmella goes from her storyline with James Ellsworth. She’s all but disappeared from the scene, but after her feud with Bella, it’s hard to say what the plan is for her. Then with the news of Tamina Snuka cleared to return to wrestle, things may very well get interesting for Smackdown.
Let’s take a more in-depth look into the three matches for tonight.
