TNA Impact Wrestling: Results and Analysis for February 23
By Dj Beal
Opening Segment
Matt Hardy meets with his old friend George Washington the giraffe to get some advice on what the seven deities had told him. He is met by Vanguard One and Jeff Hardy as he reveals that he will teleport to Egypt to become the King in Gold. He also gives his abilities to Brother Nero while he goes on his journey.
Cody Rhodes Wants to Thank Moose
Cody Rhodes makes his return back to TNA after an adventurous time outside of mainstream wrestling. Most notably, he has become the newest member of the Bullet Club. While he was away, Moose took Brandi under his wing to protect her from the Decay. Cody called out Moose to thank him directly to his face. Moose comes out to a boisterous ovation and even had Mini Moose doing his signature taunt. Cody thanks Moose but takes offense to Moose saying that Brandi had his number. The American Nightmare used a low blow on Moose after feigning his reaction as a joke. Brandi was in shock of her husband’s reaction and it seems like the two are on different spectra.
This is how I expected a Cody Rhodes turn to play out. It is better to bring him back into a story line rather than randomly have him return. Although his return was unexpected, there is still purpose in his return and a series of matches with Moose couldn’t a negative. Will this cross another name off of Rhodes’ list and will Brandi support her husband?
Eli Drake vs Tyrus
Result: Tyrus def. Drake via disqualification
Tyrus gains the upper hand early and has Eli Drake fluster. Drake rolls to the outside and grabs a microphone. Eli Drake has a change of plans and wants Tyrus to lay down so that he can take the victory but Tyrus is defiant. Tyrus will not lay down or give in to Drake’s demands and he starts to regain control. Just as Tyrus looks like he is going to overpower Drake but Eli Drake knocks down Earl Hebner. Hebner calls for the disqualification but it doesn’t end there as Drake tries to call for a truce. Tyrus denies to request as it looks like he will stand on his own but he would once again give in to money over power.
This match didn’t go like I predicted at all. Last week, I said that this match would be an opportunity for Tyrus to stand on his own. I didn’t know he would stand on his own for only one week but it gives the turn longevity. I hope it ends with Tyrus wrestling on his own and not as a bodyguard anymore.
