Next week, AJ Styles vs. Luke Harper will layout The Road to WrestleMania for WWE SmackDown.

On Tuesday’s SmackDown, the battle royal to determine the challenger to Bray Wyatt’s WWE Championship at WrestleMania ended in controversy. AJ Styles and Luke Harper were the last two men in the match and they both tumbled to the floor at the same time.

(Ok, they didn’t. Styles hit the ground well before Harper, but that’s the story they’re telling, so let’s play along.)

The match has three possible outcomes, and they all could play to a very exciting build to WrestleMania. Wyatt has already proven himself to be a very interesting champion, and his title match at WrestleMania seems poised to top Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg, or any other match from Raw, as far as interest from the hardcore fans.

During the two weeks of Wyatt’s reign, which started when he won, possibly, the best Elimination Chamber Match in WWE history, he has already defended once in an excellent Triple Threat Match. Also, the winner of the Royal Rumble, Randy Orton, decided to forfeit his guaranteed title shot at WrestleMania – electing to stay as Wyatt’s lone follower, instead.

It’s been an eventful few weeks in The Era of Wyatt, but the fallout from next Tuesday’s main event is sure to only make things crazier. With only 33 days separating next Tuesday from WrestleMania, The Blue Brand is sure to have an explosive few weeks.

It’s a testament to the writing. For years, the time between Royal Rumble and WrestleMania has been stagnant until the last two or three weeks. The PPV between those two shows has felt useless. This year, the PPV felt important for SmackDown, as has every show. Every storyline could take a dramatic turn at any moment.

Styles and Harper are going to kick it all off with Tuesday’s main event. SmackDown’s at a three-way fork in the road. Which path will they choose?
