TNA Impact Wrestling: Results and Analysis for March 2

Impact Grand Championship Match
Drew Galloway (c) vs Moose

Result: Moose def. Galloway via split decision to win the Impact Grand Championship

Galloway isn’t wasting any time showing off his physicality in the first round.  The match goes outside of the ring which doesn’t favor Moose at all.  Drew Galloway focuses on the tired challenger Moose as he can’t find his footing.  The Grand Champion ends the round with a Celtic Cross on the steel stairs and tried opt for a countout.  Galloway is awarded the first round after being dominant.

Moose starts the second round with some urgency and tries to regain control.  The goal is to get on the board to tie the score at one going into the third round.  Galloway uses a Death Valley Driver on the apron but Moose finishes the round with a powerbomb on the apron.  Moose wins the second round in a close battle between both competitors.

The third round starts with a double big boot that almost takes both men out.  They battle in the corner but Galloway gets the edge.  Moose almost throws Galloway out of the ring with a bucklebomb but Galloway comes back with a low blow.  The usual Claiborge Kick follow didn’t end it but both men were on the mat when final bell was toned.  Moose would become the new Impact Grand Champion after by a split decision.

TNA World Heavyweight Championship Match
Bobby Lashley (c) vs Josh Barnett

Result: Lashley def. Barnett via pinfall to retain the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

This may be the most legitimate opponent for the most dominant World Champion in wrestling right now.  Josh Barnett not only has MMA experience but also he has wrestled in New Japan Pro Wrestling.  He also has a working relationship with Lashley and this makes for an interesting match.  This match was surprisingly technical by both men and could be a blueprint for power wrestlers of the future.  Lashley tries for a spear but is caught in an attempted armbar but it is fought off.  Barnett hits Lashley with a round kick but Lashley would recover and eventually get the win.

The match felt like an MMA style match in a wrestling ring and perhaps exactly what we were looking for in the Grand Championship.  I love the fact that this match showed off both competitors’ ability to wrestle.  It even seemed like it had an MMA type out of nowhere finish with some shock.  I loved the match and this was an incredible show considering all the backstage drama that has been reported this week.
