WWE Universal Title Match: Kevin Owens (c) vs Goldberg
Ok, I’m going to try to keep calm here. But there is something so insanely mind-boggling about the idea of Goldberg not just winning this match, but potentially obliterating Owens in short order. But it has to go that way, right? You can’t have Goldberg, who massacred Brock Lesnar in under 90 seconds at Survivor Series and then subsequently eliminated “The Beast Incarnate” with rather ease at the Royal Rumble have a long, competitive match with Owens. How bad would that make Lesnar look?
But this is the corner that the WWE has backed itself into now. How on Earth can you have a 50 year-old guy who hadn’t been inside a professional wrestling ring in almost 13 years walk back in and destroy a man who is perceived as the most dominant man in the WWE in Lesnar? Deduct every single ounce of logic and you’ll find none in this entire program. But that’s what they did and because of that, the Fastlane main event result has already been determined. And not only that, the Universal title match at Wrestlemania 33 will most likely be a repeat of one of the worst Wrestlemania moments of all time at Wrestlemania XX when Goldberg and Lesnar were soundly booed out of Madison Square Garden. Yes, people actually get paid a lot of money to make stupid decisions like this.

The victim of this whole debacle is of course Kevin Owens. “The Prize Fighter” has been an extremely durable, fighting champion and a clear company man. And he looks like he’ll be the next casualty of the WWE’s obsession with living in the past. Outside of Lesnar jumping Goldberg before the match starts, KO doesn’t appear to have a prayer. And I don’t see that happening. Strap in folks, the Universal title match at Wrestlemania 33 will be between two guys who’ve wrestled a whopping 42 matches in the WWE since 2004. Great way to showcase your young, emerging talent, guys.
