WWE Fastlane 2017: 4 Missed Opportunities

3. Preserving the Squashers
By “Squashers,” we’re referring to Braun Strowman and Nia Jax, both of whom took their first pinfall losses in surprising fashion at Fastlane.
No one is going to have a perfect record with pins and submissions. Everyone has been proven to be vulnerable in wrestling, but there’s always a time and place to end their dominance. Case in point being both Jax and Strowman’s matches.
With Strowman, his pinfall loss seemed like a way of getting to the inevitable Roman Reigns vs. Undertaker match. After the near-perfect booking the Mountain of a Man had received since July, it seemed to be deflated with one anticlimactic three count. His path of destruction could have been ended in a grander way, instead of at a lackluster PPV like Fastlane. Save it for a big stage like SummerSlam or with build that’s not more than one month.
With Jax, she had bowled her way through the Raw Women’s Division and seemed unbeatable. She stands bigger than any other female and should be treated like a force. However, when Banks pinned her with the O’Connor Roll, it seemed like it defied logic. Shouldn’t someone like Jax with her size and strength be able to easily power out of something like that? Apparently not, because she let the diminutive Boss pin her.
After feuding for most of January, Banks and Jax barely interacted in February. This match got added to Fastlane at the end of the month, meaning there was no build toward it. Like with Strowman, couldn’t there have been more made of her undefeated streak?
