Best: To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Samoa Joe and Sami Zayn killed it in the opening match of the PPV.

Samoa Joe is a great wrestler. Sami Zayn is a great wrestler. That’s not all. Joe is a monster. Zayn is the prototypical-underdog. They just seem like a perfect match. Turns out that they are.

I’m of the camp that I would have liked Joe to get a squash match in his first PPV match. Joe was billed as a monster when he debuted and attacked Seth Rollins, but his first main roster match with Roman Reigns didn’t portray that. This match did, sort of, but that it wasn’t good enough. Zayn got a lot of offense, and Joe showed a little vulnerability. It’s just too soon for that.

Forget all that. This match had me thoroughly entertained all the way through. Though he got in his fair share of offense, Zayn also sold like crazy for Joe.

The “pass out in a submission hold” finish is a little overdone for my taste, it kept Zayn’s standing as a plucky underdog, while putting over Joe’s “Samoan Submission Machine” gimmick.
