Goldberg, Now With New Championship Belt Accessory!

I would just like to point out that as of the start of this segment, I had taken more bumps in a wrestling ring than the current WWE Universal Champion has in the past 13 years. And my total is one.

But I digress. I had long resigned myself to seeing Goldberg entering WrestleMania as the Universal Champion. So, as angry as I was last night for Kevin Owens, I wasn’t surprised. It is what it is, you know?

Still, seeing Goldberg with the giant Fruit by the Foot Title around his waist and on his shoulder is a big ol’ ick to me. So when Goldberg was interrupted by Paul Heyman, you knew Brock Lesnar wasn’t far behind.

But hey, by the time the segment was over, Goldberg had fallen victim to an F5! I guess now that we’re less than a month away from WrestleMania, it was finally time to show that he actually could take a bump.

If the point of this was to show that both guys are equally able to win a match quick by hitting their big moves, we already knew that. If the point was to show that both guys were vulnerable to the other guy’s big moves, we kind of knew that, too. What I took away from this is that Goldberg has a profuse sweating issue, and an inability to let go of the belt. Probably not the goal in everyone’s minds.

Look, the match was big enough before the championship was a part of it. Adding a major prize just makes it seem like overkill. There’s still time before Mania, but it’s going to take a bit to sway most of the hardcore fans. Of course, this match is for the casual fans, who are probably eating it up – when they’re watching.
