At WrestleMania 33, Brock Lesnar and Goldberg will face each other one final time. Many point to a Lesnar victory but is the result guaranteed?

Since November, Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg have been involved in a bitter rivalry. Stemming from their first encounter back in 2004, the Beast Incarnate told fans everywhere he was going destroy the once dominant WCW superstar. Survivor Series was where their rematch took place, and with it the most shocking moment since the breaking of the streak. In just 86 seconds, the Beast Incarnate went from an indestructible competitor to something significantly less.

The result left the fans stunned, ringside announcers in shock, and Paul Heyman an emotional wreck. Staggering to the back with the assistance of his manager, Lesnar left the arena as Goldberg pulled off what many thought was an impossible victory.

Two months later, Lesnar made his return to Monday Night Raw and laid waste to the top superstars on the roster. His aura reestablished, the former UFC and WWE champion was eager to get back into the ring with Goldberg. Promising to eliminate his foe from the Royal Rumble, he entered the event intent on destruction. Suplex City was in full swing that night, as superstars from both Raw and SmackDown Live fell to Lesnar. Then Goldberg entered at number twenty-eight, and fans prepared for a clash of titans.

Instead, what we ended up seeing was the utter annihilation of Lesnar. One spear left him easy pickings to be eliminated from the match. Once again, the reaction of fans was that of complete shock. In two different altercations, the Beast Incarnate had appeared inferior to the much older veteran. His first loss could be attributed to overconfidence, but this embarrassment created doubt in the eyes of fans. Could Goldberg go down as the only man Brock Lesnar was unable to beat?

Beyond frustrated, Lesnar decided to make one final offer to his rival. One more match, this time at the biggest stage in the industry; WrestleMania 33. The offer was accepted, and now on April 2nd we get to see the epic encounter take place. As an added bonus, the Universal Championship will be on the line. With his monster run, Goldberg has positioned himself as the greatest powerhouse on Raw. Now, fans have to wonder if Lesnar can once again become the one who stands above the rest.

To those that question Brock Lesnar’s chances, let me take you back to WrestleMania 30.  When the Beast Incarnate was booked to face The Undertaker, no one thought he stood a chance. The streak was something that many felt would stand the test of time. Undertaker was already a magnificent competitor with a storied career, and the streak was an extension of that. Arguably his grandest achievement, the Deadman’s record at WrestleMania was a representation of his legacy. Current and future hall of famers had risen to the challenge and failed, so what chance did Lesnar have?

As it turns out, Lesnar was the one to end it all. Three F5s ended the streak, and in turn created the most shocking moment of our generation. Using the momentum from that win, Lesnar would deliver a one-sided assault to John Cena to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam later that year. Together, those two wins showcased how the Beast Incarnate is a once in a lifetime combatant.

For Goldberg, this final run that he has been enjoying these past few months will finally end at WrestleMania 33. While nothing is ever “guaranteed” in the world of sports entertainment, certain victories are more realistic than others. Should an aging veteran like Goldberg be able to defeat a man who is faster and stronger than him? Not just any athlete, but a freak of nature who has made an entire career out of making history.
