A Phenomenal Start
Tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live begins with a recap of AJ Styles assaulting Shane McMahon and the immediate aftermath. After the video, Styles converses with General Manager Daniel Bryan. Right off the bat, Bryan makes it clear had it not been for Shane, Styles would still be fired. Believing that the Phenomenal One is in for a tough fight, he warns him about the consequences that are ahead of him. In response, an arrogant Styles says that he intends on starting SmackDown Live the same way he did last week.
Confident and back to his normal self, Styles made his way out to the arena to address his recent actions. Proud of the fact he attacked Shane, he brags about how good it felt to unleash weeks of frustration. Turning the focus to Shane’s challenge for WrestleMania, Styles gladly accepts his request. Calling himself “untouchable”, he declares that it’s his stardom that allowed him to get away with the attack on the Commissioner. Styles then states that he will wait for Shane to show up in the parking lot, because he still has unfinished business to settle.
Two weeks in a row, AJ Styles has started SmackDown Live by showcasing his strong mic skills. While this upcoming match with Shane McMahon has been seen as a demotion for the Phenomenal One, I think the opposite. Given the current state of the Blue Brand, there are very few faces for Style to compete with. Shane has a deep connection with the fans, and even in 2017, he’s capable of being a solid performer. When these two meet inside the ring at WrestleMania, the action is going to exceed expectations.
