WWE WrestleMania 33: 25 Greatest Moments in WrestleMania History
By Bryan Heaton
23. End Of An Era (WrestleMania XXVIII)
The Undertaker and his undefeated streak are a big part of WrestleMania history, so it’s no surprise to see that he’s involved in many of the event’s greatest moments. The same goes for both Triple H and Shawn Michaels. And if we’re being honest, some of the greatest moments all three men had involved one or both of the others.
Possibly the biggest moment that involved all three was at WrestleMania XXVIII in 2012. It was the second match between Triple H and Taker, and Michaels served as the guest referee. Oh, and the match took place in the Hell in a Cell.
For longtime fans of WWE, this match proved to be one of the better matches of the night. After the injuries Undertaker sustained the year before in his victory over Triple H, he came out in great shape. With the focus on The Streak, there were several shocking near-falls where Taker seemed superhuman when kicking out. Michaels, as guest referee, tried to be impartial. But by the end, he was trying to help his best friend do what he couldn’t.
Eventually, Taker won after withstanding a tremendous onslaught. Multiple Pedigrees, Sweet Chin Music, and chair and sledgehammer shots couldn’t put The Deadman down. Following the match, the three shared a moment on the ramp as Taker and Michaels helped Triple H to the back to cheers. It was a symbolic end to the prior era of WWE, where those three ruled the landscape.
Had all three remained out of action, it would have been more of an “end,” but with Triple H winning the world title four years later, it loses some luster. But it was still a memorable WrestleMania moment.
