22. Foley Through A Flaming Table (WrestleMania 22)

Mick Foley has a long, and often tumultuous, relationship with WWE. During one of his many returns to the company, he ended up in a feud with Edge. The Rated-R Superstar had recently lost the WWE Championship to the man he had defeated to win it, John Cena, when Foley came back in 2006.

In February, Foley was the guest referee for Edge’s championship rematch against Cena. After Cena retained the title, Edge attacked Foley. Later, he would issue a challenged to the Hardcore Legend for a match at WrestleMania 22.

That match would end up being a hardcore match, and it was gloriously violent. The crowd in Chicago was hot as usual, and they were treated to a pair of superstars going to extreme lengths to put the other down.

From barbed wire belts to baseball bats, from cookie sheets to ring steps, everything was fair game to use as a weapon. But when Edge doused Foley’s flannel shirt with lighter fluid, everyone knew what had to come next.

Sure enough, a table was set up, and the table itself was ignited. And shockingly, Edge speared Mick right through the inferno.

It’s almost unfair to reduce the match to just that one moment. The whole thing was a masterclass in no holds barred fighting. But that spot through the table is Foley’s WrestleMania moment, for better or worse.
