3. WrestleMania 22 – Big Time by Peter Gabriel

WrestleMania 22 tagline for the event was “Big Time” what better way to promote this tag then having a song of the same name be the events theme song. For the first time since WWE began using theme songs, the company used older pieces.

WWE had been using current songs and singles from artists that had come out around the time of the events. They finally ended this rule in 2006 when they decided to use Peter Gabriel’s 1986 hit song “Big Time” off of his album So.

Gabriel has been one of the more influential musicians in the rock world in the past thirty years. He began his career as the original frontman of the rock band Genesis. Gabriel would leave the band in 1975 to begin his solo career. ‘

His song “Big Time” fit the event perfectly as the song made the event seem like the biggest WrestleMania of all time. The song was echoed throughout the loud and passionate Chicago crowd inside the infamous All State Arena.

The song was used in the video packages to promote the big marquee matches and was used to begin the show with massive pyro to begin the show. Lyrics in the song such as “So much larger than life” and “I’m gonna watch it grow” really described how colossal and monuments the event had begun.

Along with having a very stacked card, WrestleMania 22 was backed a fantastic theme song, that is still remembered when you think of the event.
