Nikki Bella to Compete at WrestleMania 33, Despite Neck Injury

Nikki Bella announced she suffered an injury to her already-damaged neck, but will be good to go for WrestleMania 33.

Nikki Bella had a remarkable comeback to WWE in August 2016. She had missed nearly one year with a career-threatening neck injury, something a handful of Superstars have had to retire from. The odds were defied, though, and she has since remained a regular character on SmackDown Live, despite being a part-time wrestler.

At WrestleMania 33, Bella is set to team with real-life boyfriend John Cena. They’ll face The Miz and Maryse in a mixed tag team match. However, there may have been some doubt about this taking place.

On her YouTube channel, the Fearless One announced she suffered a “light herniation” around the area she was operated on. However, she’s cleared to compete on Sunday (h/t Cageside Seats):

"“Good news, (well), good and bad news from the doc: this light herniation above where I had surgery but I am cleared for WrestleMania. I’m very excited about that. It’s been a tough week. Yesterday was a tough day, it was a long one.”"

It’s positive to see the injury isn’t bad enough to keep Bella off the show. If it was, who knows what WWE would have done as a replacement, or if they’d just remove the match from the card.

After the show, don’t be surprised if this leads to the former WWE Divas Champion taking time off. It’s better for her to heal after being on the road for the past eight months, especially after the surgery she went through in early 2016. She can spend time with Cena, who may also be away for film commitments.
