3. Triple H vs John Cena – WrestleMania 22

In mid-2005 Monday Night Raw got a shocking debut when John Cena was drafted to the Flagship Show in the lottery. Cena who was the WWE Champion at the time brought the belt over with him, making it the first time since 2002 that the WWE Championship was home on Raw.

Triple H at the time was battling his former protege Batista for the World Championship. After their brutal Hell in a Cell match, Triple H decided to take a break and left Raw for a couple of months.

Batista was then drafted to SmackDown leaving Monday Night Raw in the hands of John Cena going forward. When Triple H returned in October, he immediately made his plans known that he was coming to win back the WWE Championship.

After months of leading up to a match, the two were set to finally clash at WrestleMania 22. Despite going in as the heel in the match the ever noisy Chicago crowd aligned themselves with The Game pitting Cena as the villain.

The two would trade ferocious strikes and some near-falls with Triple H even knocking Cena out with his weapon of choice the sledgehammer. After battling for nearly 30 minutes Cena was able to lock in the STF and made The Game submit.

This match helped solidify John Cena as a legit main event star going forward and proved he could with the best WWE had to offer.
