Despite being billed as the biggest wrestling show of the year, WrestleMania 33 has the potential to be a disaster.

WrestleMania 33 is less than one week away. Are you excited for this unmatched, grandiose spectacle of sports entertainment? You should be. WWE has spent months (or in some cases, weeks) building up the matches for this card. They’re trying to present this as a rollercoaster ride of excitement and fun (just as those borderline-annoying ads saying so).

And yet, one cannot feel a bit of sorry surrounding this year’s WrestleMania. For a show that’s supposed to be a spectacle of unmatched proportions, WrestleMania’s going to feel more like a marathon than a joyride.

WWE’s key decision-makers have fully embraced the philosophy that ‘quality is better than quantity’. After all, WrestleMania has 12 fully confirmed matches, with Seth Rollins vs. Triple H likely to be confirmed very soon. Not only this, but there’s also a myriad of other wrestling events going on all this week. To that end, the booking and creative departments must be being stretched thin right now.

While we should all be optimistic that WrestleMania’s just around the corner, last year’s event left a foul taste in many fans’ mouths. After two consecutive years of excellent wrestling, shocking twists, and genuine feel-good moments, Vince McMahon basically trolled millions of people last year. He made booking decisions that did not make any sense, and the show closed on the worst possible note imaginable. No amount of sound editing could silence or even weaken the chorus of boos Roman Reigns got at last year’s WrestleMania.
