WWE Championship Match: Bray Wyatt (c) vs Randy Orton

Mark my words: the winner of the Wrestlemania 33 main event will prove exactly what direction the company is going in.  If Wyatt wins, it’ll be clear that the WWE is moving into the future and putting all their chips on the line for a young, potential mega-star.  If Orton wins, it’ll be evident that they are not prepared to make that plunge and that they will continue to rely on aging wrestlers, some of who are only part-timers.  In their defense,  the fact that Wyatt is even in the main event of their biggest show, it looks like the WWE is heading in the direction of the future.

It was a very welcome sight to see Wyatt snatch up the WWE Championship at the Elimination in February.  It was even more pleasing to see him pin John Cena clean on the following Smackdown to retain the title.  For close to 5 years, Wyatt has been one of the most interesting and alluring characters in the WWE.  Unfortunately, that hadn’t paid off in a ton of success in the ring as it constantly seemed like he was getting the short end of the stick.  But after winning the title and now facing off with a veteran like Orton, this is a massive opportunity for “The Eater of Worlds”.  And yes, the bizarre supernatural stuff that the two have been partaking in throughout the past few weeks has been a bit silly, but this is still a compelling feud, one that is very worthy of this spot.

The fact of the matter is that Orton has been here before.  And although he hasn’t had his big Wrestlemania winning moment, he’s had plenty of others.  He’s wrestled for a world title at 4 Manias, two of them in the main event, and he was even a part of The Undertaker’s streak.  Not only do I think Wyatt wins here, I’m expecting a massive double turn.  Support for Wyatt has been growing for a long time and the fans, though not sick of Orton, could use a new, permanent main event face.  Bray’s worked very hard for this moment and I think he’ll get it in spades.

Winner and still champion: Bray Wyatt
