The Undertaker’s career came to an end at WrestleMania 33 with a symbolic gesture. He lost to Roman Reigns in the main event of the show.

The Undertaker’s health had been speculated on for weeks before WrestleMania 33. It wasn’t known if his match with Roman Reigns would be it, or if he could go one last time in 2018.

At WrestleMania 33, Undertaker vs. Reigns would close the show, despite there being two World title matches beforehand. It seemed like it spelled the end of the line, which ended up becoming the case by about 12:00 a.m. ET.

The Dead Man struggled through his match with the Big Dog, not being able to stay upright for most of the second half. He took a brutal amount of offense, including a handful of spears that sent him crumbling to the ground. It made it all too apparent that this would be it for one of WWE’s greatest stars, which was sealed with Reigns spearing him one last time and getting the pin.

Afterward is when the waterworks began. Taker removed his ring gear and placed it in the middle of the ring. He had a long send-off to the fans, clearly signaling that this is the end of the line. The show closed with him doing his trademark fist in the air, before drifting into the night for the final time at a WWE event.

While not a great match to close WrestleMania, it was a terrific way of honoring one of WWE’s greatest of all time. He got a chance to go out in front of over 60,000 fans, all of whom appreciated him and what he’s done. The same goes for those watching at home.
