4. The Former Best Friends Go at It

Throughout 2016, Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens showcased their amazing chemistry with one another. Forging an alliance, they quickly became close friends and one of the most entertaining acts on Raw. Jericho was able to show just how valuable he was to the company, with creations such as “The List of Jericho” breathing new life into his character. Owens benefitted as well, because now he had a former world champion offering him advice. This made his recent work even more enjoyable than the strong matches he routinely produces.

When the Festival of Friendship served as the site of Owens’ betrayal of Jericho, fans everywhere rejoiced. After months of waiting, we were finally going to see these two go at it. The only other time we had seen these two go at it was the Madison Square Garden special on the WWE Network back in 2015. That made the match all the more enticing, as we had never witnessed what these two could produce on a grand stage like WrestleMania. Add the United States Championship into the mix, and you have a potential classic on your hands.

Knowing that this match needed to deliver a satisfying conclusion to their feud, both men put in amazing effort. Treating one another as equals throughout the contest, the result could’ve gone either way. On this night, Owens emerged as the better man when he executed a Pop-Up Powerbomb on the ring apron. The move took all of the fight remaining out of Jericho, so when he was sent back into the ring it sealed his fate. Three seconds later, Kevin Owens had earned his first United States Championship.
